Winners Chapel pastors fight publicly over N1.6million profit from land sale

Three Pastors of the Living Faith Church, aka Winners Chapel at Isheri Olofin area of Lagos State are at loggerheads over the sharing of N16.5m realized from the purchase of a parcel of land and property by the church. The trio, who have taken the battle to a Lagos court, are Deacon Dolire Oluwaniyi, an estate agent, versus two other Pastors, Edwin Iky and Peter O. Odama.
The Pastors acted on behalf of the church over the purchase of the property, Vanguard reports.

The National President of the Bus Conductors Association of Nigeria, BCAN, Comrade Israel Ade Adeshola through the Lagos State ministry of transportation said it would employ 1000 graduates from different Universities as Bus Conductors. Comrade Adeshola in an interview with Vanguard also disclosed that the new policy of the Lagos state government under the leadership of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode is collaborating with the association to give Bus Conducting profession a new look.

Army vows to track those behind fresh suicide attacks

Mustapha Anka, deputy spokesman of the Nigerian Army, says there are ongoing efforts to arrest those behind the latest suicide attacks in Maiduguri, Borno state capital. There are conflicting reports on the casualties, but Anka said Victor Ezugwu, acting general officer commanding (GOC), had already visited the scene “to get first class information”..Assuring residents of the city of their safety, he advised them to be security conscious.

“Troops and security agencies have been mobilised and the injured have been evacuated while efforts are ongoing to comb the general area as well as entries and exits of Maiduguri,” he said in a statement.

Access Bank declares N72billion profit in third quarter of the year

Access Bank Plc on Friday declared a profit before tax of N72 billion for the nine months ended Sept. 30, 2016. This is contained in a statement issued by the bank’s Head, Media Relations, Mr Abdul Imoyo on Friday in Lagos. Imoyo said the figure indicated an increase of 19 per cent when compared with a profit before tax of N60.4 billion achieved in the preceding period of 2015. The bank’s profit after tax (PAT) grew by 19 per cent to N57.1 billion from N48.1 billion in 2015.

Its gross earnings rose by seven per cent to N274.5 billion against N257.6 billion in the corresponding period of 2015.

A Zimbabwean man, Justice Gorwa who reportedly went into coma after he realized his wife, Chifamba Chantelle had an extra marital affair with his best friend, has said the adulterous affair was the greatest betrayal he has gone through in his life. Upon recovery from coma, Gorwa told Zimbabwe latest news that his wife cheated on him with his best friend, Guhwa Talent, when he was at work.

DSS rescues its operative from kidnappers’ Underground den in rivers state

of the Department of State Services on Thursday rescued one of their colleagues, who was kidnapped by unknown gunmen on Wednesday. The victim, identified as Agnes, was abducted along Eleme-Agbonchia Road in Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State.. It was gathered that she was in a commercial bus with about 10 passengers when the incident happened at about 5.30pm.

The gunmen were said to have stopped the commercial bus and whisked away the occupants of the vehicle, including the DSS operative.

N1.4bn scam: Court admits 13 more exhibits against ex Chief of Defence staff, Badeh

A Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday admitted 13 more exhibits tendered by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission in the ongoing trial of former Chief of Defence Staff, Alex Badeh.
Badeh is being prosecuted by the EFCC alongside his company, Iyalikam Nigeria Ltd., for an alleged N1.4bn fraud while in office. He denies the accusation. He is accused of stealing the dollar equivalent of the sum from the accounts of the Nigerian Air Force to buy property in choice areas of Abuja between January and December 2013.

Oh No! Nigerian Teenager stabbed to death on his 19th year birthday

A teenager was stabbed to death on his 19th birthday while attending a friend's 18th birthday party in Ilford, Essex. Ziggy Worrell-Owusu, from Hackey, was at a party attended by at least 100 people at the Basement Lounge Shisha Bar on Goodmayes Road when the incident took place.. It is believed at some point during the evening there was an altercation that led to Worrell-Owusu being fatally stabbed.
The teenager was rushed to hospital, but died of his injuries at around 1.45am on Thursday (27 October), with a post-mortem carried out on 28 October establishing he died from a stab wound.

Court gives Osun Governor Aregbesola 7 days to defend refusal to appoint commissioners

An Osun State High Court sitting in Osogbo has given Governor Rauf Aregbesola, seven days to defend why he has not constituted his cabinet since 2014. His counsel, Fatimo Adesina had urged the court to consider the governor’s application on the court’s lack of jurisdiction to hear the case before proceeding to the substantive suit filed by Barrister Kanmi Ajibola over his refusal to appoint commissioners for almost two years since his assumption of office for second term.

Gunmen Kill Seven People in Kaduna Village Attack

At least seven people have been killed and several others injured following an attack by suspected herdsmen at Kaninkon village in Jema’a Local Government Area of Kaduna state. The latest attack came barely two weeks after gunmen invaded Godogodo village in the same local government, killing over 40 people and burning down houses.

According to a resident of the area who spoke to Channels TV correspondent on telephone, the gunmen invaded the village on Thursday. They killed the village head and six others.

Woman awarded $70million after claiming baby powder is the cause of her cancer

A California woman has been awarded $70 million in damages after claiming that Johnson & Johnson’s baby powder caused her ovarian cancer. Deborah Giannecchini, who has been diagnosed with Stage 4 ovarian cancer, was on Thursday awarded the said sum by a jury in St. Louis.
The suit accused Johnson & Johnson of “negligent conduct” by making and marketing its baby powder – which had used for several years.

Sea Ports Efficiency: FG To Block All Revenue Leakages In Operations

The Nigerian government is making efforts to plug all revenue leakages in the operations of the nation’s ports, the Managing Director of the Nigeria Ports Authority, Hadiza Usman, said on Friday.
She made the remark during a tour of the ports in Port Harcourt and Onne in Rivers State, southern Nigeria. According to the managing director, the era of operational lapses at the expense of revenue due to the government is over.

Dangot gets back on ground, as His Cement records N442billion revenue in 9 months

Leading cement manufacturer, Dangote Cement Plc, has declared an increased revenue of N442.09 billion in the last nine months, the Company’s financial report released on Thursday at the Nigerian Stock Exchange indicated. The revenue in the nine month ended September 30, 2016 was 20.97 per cent higher than the figure recorded during the same period in 2015, despite the harsh operating environment, a development attributed to management’s strategy to leverage on its pan-African status.
The report indicated that Dangote Cement increased the revenue by N76.642 billion from N365.450 billion it made during the same period in 2015.

Igbo woman sentenced to 90years in Prison over N5.6million Admission scam

A Court in Enugu on Thursday sentenced a woman to 90 years in jail for university admission fraud.
The woman, Chika Amsy Charles, was prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, and was sentenced to three years imprisonment on each of the 30-count charge brought against her. The sentences are to run concurrently from the date of her conviction.

Ms. Charles was found guilty of swindling three young Nigerians to the tune of N5.6 million under the guise of helping them secure admission into Enugu State University of Science and Technology, through her unregistered NGO called “Bold and Dynamic Gender Initiative”.

The Minister of State, Petroleum Resources, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, has said as part of efforts to end insurgency in the Niger Delta, President Muhammadu Buhari will meet with some stakeholders from the region on Tuesday next week. The meeting, he stated, would hold inside the Presidential Villa. Kachikwu said this in his welcome address at the public presentation of a roadmap for the development of the nation’s oil and gas industry at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Thursday.

The Federal High Court in Lagos yesterday heard how a former Senior Special Assistant to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan on Domestic Affairs, Waripamo-Owei Dudafa, allegedly laundered N270.7 million through the bank account of a restaurant. A prosecution witness in Dudafa’s trial for alleged N5.1 billion fraud, Kayode Temitope Olanrewaju, testified before Justice Mohammed Idris that the funds were laundered in 2013 and 2015.

Dudafa was arraigned for the offence by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), alongside Joseph Iwuejo and four companies.

A prosecution witness, Sunday Alade Oluseye ‎has informed an Abuja Federal High Court how he helped an ally of Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State, Abiodun Agbele move about N1.2bn in the build-up to the 2014 election. Sunday, an EFCC witness, informed the Justice Nnamdi Dimgba-led court that the said money was stuffed inside Ghana-must-go bags and moved in two tranches.

The witness, who is the Branch head of Zenith Bank in Akure, said he was among the team that evacuated the money to the bank with a bullion van after it was flown to the Akure airport in a medium sized aircraft by Senator Musliu Obanikoro.

The Court of Appeal in Abuja on Thursday dismissed an appeal filed by Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, to challenge his ongoing trial on charges bordering on asset declaration breaches. The Justice Abdul Aboki-led panel ruled that, contrary to Saraki’s contention, the CCT had jurisdiction to entertain the charges instituted against him by the Federal Government.

The judgment of the Court of the Appeal on Thursday cleared any possible legal hurdle capable of preventing the Senate President’s trial from continuing on November 7, as already scheduled by the CCT.

Photos- Army uncovers 25 human skulls in militant's shrine in Bayelsa State

Gory and grim sight confronted troops of Joint Task Force (JTF), Operation Delta Safe (ODS) at four militant shrines tucked inside the creeks of Akpabuyo and Bakassi local government areas, Cross River State... The troops found 25 human skulls at various decomposing stages.
The discovery, it was gathered, raised concerns that the militants were engaged in human sacrifice, perhaps, to fortify themselves for their devilish operations.

The shrines, which were discovered at Ikot Ene Idam. Abakpa and Ikang creeks of the councils belonged to a notorious militant group, the Bakassi Strike Force (BSF).

President Buhari and Gowon in closed-door meeting in Aso Rock

President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday had a secret meeting with a former Head of State, Gen. Yakubu Gowon (retd.), at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. The closed door meeting took place inside the President’s office. This is the second time the two leaders would be meeting this month.

They had earlier met on August 23 before Gowon travelled out of the country.

The former military warlord, however, declined speaking to reporters after the Thursday meeting.

The Minister of National Planning, Udo Udoma, says so far 753 billion has been released for capital expenditure while 1.2 trillion is for personnel cost.

A Bill for an Act to make provision for the prohibition and punishment of sexual harassment of students by lecturers in tertiary institutions has been passed into law. The Bill which was sponsored by Senator Ovie Omo-Agege (Delta Central) and 57 other co-sponsors, was read for the first time on Wednesday 4th May, 2016.

The objective of the Bill is to prohibit the offence of sexual harassment in tertiary institutions and impose stiff penalties on perpetrators.

Segun Oni, has said if he were a Supreme Court judge and the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, attempted to influence court judgments through bribery, he would have been arrested.

In an interview with journalists, Oni according to The Cable, said the allegations by the judges against Amaechi would not be taken seriously because of late timing.

Four die, three injured in auto crash along -Ibadan Road

Four persons lost their lives while three others were injured in an auto crash which occurred along the Abeokuta-Odeda-Ibadan Road, in Ogun State axis on Wednesday night.
The accident involved a commercial Toyota Picnic space bus with number plate BDJ 427 SX and a Foton truck with number plate YKS 194 XA.

Our correspondent gathered that the vehicles were travelling out of Abeokuta, and the accident occurred at Alakija Village near Olodo town, in Odeda Local Government Area of Ogun State.

Police on Wednesday uncovered a den in Ogun State believed to be operated by fraudsters and used for organised crimes. The police say unsuspecting members of the public have being swindled of money and other valuables.

Located inside the bush at Abule Ifa area of Siun, in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of the state, many victims were thought to have fall victims to their pranks.
