Independent newspaper of UK goes off print

According to Starting from the March 26, 2016, The Independent daily title will end print production following the sale of its i newspaper in a £24 million sale to Johnston Press.

ESI Media, the paper publishing group informed that the move to a digital-only model will have no effect on its sister title known as The Evening Standard.
“The newspaper industry is changing, and that change is being driven by readers. They’re showing us that the future is digital”.
The announcement now puts about 100 jobs at risk with the sale of the newspaper launched in 1986.
“The newspaper industry is changing, and that change is being driven by readers,” owner Evgeny Lebedev said.
“They’re showing us that the future is digital,” he added. “This decision preserves the Independent brand and allows us to continue to invest in the high quality editorial content that is attracting more and more readers to our online platforms.” He added.
In a letter to staff concerning redundancies in the paper which currently engages around 150 employees , Mr Lebedev said; “A number of employees at Independent Print Limited will be made redundant”, Mr Lebedev told staff. “I regret this, but can confirm that all those on employment contracts and long term casuals who are being made redundant will receive two weeks’ pay, subject to conditions, for every year worked, plus your notice period.”
