Wike and NDDC clash into war over construction projects

The Rivers state Government is currently angry with the Niger-Delta Development Commission, NDDC over construction of projects in the state. While the state government claims to have been left out of the activities of the NDDC, the commission maintains that the NDDC is operating within the framework of the Act that establishes the NDDC. Speaking with the media in Port Harcourt, Special Adviser to the Rivers state governor on NDDC, Aribitoye Okiri said the commission has been operating in total disregard to Governor Nyesom Wike.

The Bishop of the Living Faith Church worldwide, Dr. David Oyedepo, has appealed to those criticising the school fees charged by Covenant University to desist to avoid incurring the wrath of God. Oyedepo, in a telecast to a pre-Shiloh 2016 Convention gathering of the church monitored via satellite in Jos on Saturday, said the critics were acting in ignorance and risked incurring the wrath of God.  He said one of such critic, who was smitten with a strange plague of chronic mouth odour over the act, only received spiritual pardon following his confession and “my intervention before he was restored to dignity”.

President Buhari confirms appointment of two Supreme Court justices

President Buhari has approved the appointment of Justices Ejembi Eko and Amina Augie to the Supreme Court bench.. Acting Director, Information, Mr. Soji Oye, disclosed this in a statement on Friday. The appointment followed NJC’s earlier recommendation of the two candidates to the President.
Ac‎cording to Oye, the two Justices who were formerly of the Court of Appeal will be sworn in on Monday by the outgoing Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Mahmud Mohammed, who retires on November 10.

Yoruba leader Ajayi dies at 91

                             
Eminent lawyer and elder statesman, Sir Olaniwun Ajayi, died yesterday aged 91. He was the oldest member of the Pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, which led in paying tribute to the man it described as a rare leader. Sir Olaniwun passed on early yesterday, according to a statement issued by the group.

Unknown Gunmen Kidnaps INEC Secretary

Unknown Gunmen has kidnapped The secretary of the Independent National Electoral Commission in Ekiti state, Barrister Olujide Omoleke, The commission’s public relation officer in the state, Mr Taiwo Gbadegesin, confirmed the incident and added that the case has been reported to the relevant security agencies.. According to Mr Gbadegesin, Barrister Omoleke was kidnapped along the Akure-Ilesa road around 4.00 p.m on Thursday.

There is no information yet on his abductors but Mr Gbadegesin added that Mr Omoleke’s driver informed the commission that the kidnappers wore Police uniform.

Kidnappers hold children hostage, forces their mother to withdraw N90,000

The Ondo State Police Command have arrested the leader of a three-man armed robbery gang who held a mother of four, Folashade Jayeoba, hostage and led her to the bank to withdraw N90,000. She was reportedly led to the bank after she complained to the suspects that she had no cash at home. The leader of the gang, thereafter, asked for her ATM card and they followed her to the bank while they held her children hostage. 

Serial killer, most wanted kidnapper arrested in Kogi

Nemesis has caught up with a notorious kidnapper and serial killer alleged to have been terrorizing high profile citizens in the country. The suspect, identified as Zakeri Yua Isiaka, is also alleged to be an armed robbery gang leader, as well as a political thug responsible for series of deaths in the last general election, in Kogi and some states in the South-West.

The suspect, aged 30, was nabbed by the operatives of the Inspector-General of Police Special, Intelligence Response Team (IRT), led by Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP), Abba Kyari, penultimate Sunday, along the Okene- Akure Highway.

Court frees all suspects in Kano blasphemy killing

                        
A Kano Magistrate Court presided over by Jibrin Muhammad yesterday freed five suspected killers of Igbo woman, Bridget Agbahime. The 74-year-old trader was killed at Kofar Wambai market for alleged blasphemy. Muhammad’s decision was based on the directive of the Kano State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice. The freed suspects, Dauda Ahmed, Abdulmumeen Mustafa, Zubairu Abubakar, Abdullahi Abubakar and Musa Abdullahi were challenged with a four-count charge of allegedly inciting disturbance, culpable homicide, joint act and mischief.

The kinsmen of a former Delta State governor, Chief James Ibori, have alleged that it was Ibori’s clamour for fiscal federalism to enable the people of the Niger Delta region to control their resources that led to his incarceration in a British jail.. Ibrahim Magu, acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), says there are forces “hell bent” on causing disaffection between him and the presidency. In a statement on Thursday, Wilson Uwujaren, spokesman of the EFCC, dismissed reports on social media that Magu was desperate because he had not been confirmed as the substantive chairman of the EFCC. He attributed the reports to forces that were not comfortable with his campaign to rescue the nation from the “grip of corruption”.

INEC Fixes Dates For Hanging Elections Including Rivers’

Serial Killers storms Court heavily armed, holds judge and lawyers hostage in court


No fewer than 10 gunmen stormed three courts in Makurdi, the Benue State capital, on Wednesday, when they held a sitting judge hostage. The gunmen, who shot into the air, caused panic in the capital city as residents fled in various directions, the News Agency of Nigeria reports. The courts the gunmen invaded included Benue State High Court 9, Chief Magistrate’s Court and the Upper Area Court. An eyewitness told our correspondent that the gunmen stormed the premises of the three courts which were about 500 meters away from state police headquarters around 8am.

Udom Emmanuel, governor of Akwa Ibom state, has approved the dismissal of 5,000 teachers employed under the administration of Godswill Akpabio, former governor of the state. Vowing not to bow to sentiments, Emmanuel explained that lapses were noticed in the foundation of the recruitment process. He blamed a syndicate for the issuance of fake appointment letters to thousands of unqualified applicants.

Police Opens Investigation Into Alleged IDPs’ Sexual Abuse

                       
The Inspector General of Police, (IGP) Ibrahim Idris has set up a Special Investigation Team to immediately commence thorough enquiry into all cases of alleged sexual abuses. Other issues include exploitation, harassment, gender based violence and professional misconduct on Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in some of North-eastern states contained in a report published by the Human Right Watch against Camp officials, vigilante groups, Soldiers and Policemen among others.

Man heavily beats up policemen for arresting him

A young man, Lucky Okeke, 24, was yesterday arraigned before a Lagos court for allegedly beating two policemen who arrested him. The policemen were identified as corporals Abubakar Hussaini and Yusuf Olaitan. Okeke had earlier allegedly assaulted a resident of Assemblies of God Church Street, Badore, in the Ajah area of Lagos State, Funmi Dayafin. He then reportedly punched Olaitan in the head and rained blows on Hussaini’s mouth until blood gushed out, Punch reports.
